The joint is solid and the set position is sufficiently “fixed“ for tilting to the sides or forwards and backwards
like many other reviewers, I also have to say that the screws in the package are horrible and “dangerously soft - luckily I managed to install it without breaking, but the grooves are worn out (I also have another holder from Alza, specifically the Ergo 110B Plate and delivered there screws, that' s another level, much more durable)
although the ball joint is sufficiently strong and fixed for “all kinds of“ tilting forward, backward - sideways, when turning in the “pivot“ style, it no longer holds the extra well-adjusted position (as if it doesn' t fall under its own weight, it doesn' t, but a gentle crushing is enough and it' s already deflected)
