I bought this lens as a companion to my 50mm prime lens so I could vary my shots more during family photoshoots. I use it for reportage, cityscape and street photography, and I couldn't be happier. The image quality and colour rendering are absolutely perfect, I've got no complaints at all. The price matches the quality, and for me, it was a really great buy as I'd wanted this lens for a long time.
It's also great for beginners who don't want to change lenses often during a shoot. You can capture a full reportage or an entire family photoshoot with it. It's versatile, reliable, and the results are beautiful. Sony simply know what they're doing! Definitely recommend!

GM, what to add
besides the top drawing on the full hole to the corners, which one expects, I was pleasantly surprised by the richness of the halftones in the B&W photo
excellent control
the aperture ring on the lens is genius. If he was there and he just belongs there. Normal digi aperture adjustment from the body is slow complicated crap.
price, but corresponds to the quality
buy on Sony promotions - you can save a lot of money
the stupid, complicated Sony-cashback system. For registration, cashback guarantee extension 3. you fill in some forms, search for the lens type, fill in the lens number etc. Just a category 1 nuisance

Focusing could be a little faster
Noticeable vignetting
