I went for a Synology because I wanted a Plug and Play device, meaning you plug it in and use it without any major intervention or setup. That’s only half true. A while ago, Synology forced users of its NAS servers to use its own drives, which are just rebranded Toshiba drives with modified firmware. After a wave of criticism, they removed this restriction, but they're still pushing their own policy with NVMe SSDs! Want to put a Samsung drive or one from another manufacturer in the NVMe slot to speed up loading (as a cache)? Well, then you need an overpriced NVMe from Synology! The Synology DS425+ costs £15,000–£16,000 today. The price of a 400GB NVMe today is £13,450! That's almost the purchase price of the NAS itself! NVMe drive compatibility can be fixed with a script, but do you really want to deal with that on a £15,000 device when the competition offers the same for the same money with better hardware and without any issues? In conclusion, I'd like to say that this isn't my first Synology NAS. I still have a second-hand DS218 with IronWolf drives. But I was limited by its performance, so I wanted a newer model. That's why I bought the Synology DS425+ and made this huge mistake. I have large drives, and as soon as I've backed everything up properly, I'm switching to UGREEN, which offers several times the performance for the same price, with no restrictions on drives!

I further purchased third-party RAM and M2 SSD, after slight modifications and about 10-min. time you are able to install both RAM and third-party SSDs. Ask the AI, it will tell you the exact procedure.
In other words - there is no reason not to buy here and no reason to worry.
I recommend buying an external USB drive to actually back up your data - REDUNDANCE IS NOT BACKING UP! and connect your NAS to a UPS - I have an APC that works perfectly.
Then you can be sure that even in the event of a power outage, the power will be on. of the current, nothing will happen to your data.
