The Synology RS822+ is a rackmount NAS storage solution in a compact 1U design with four hard drive bays. The server runs on the DiskStation Manager operating system, which unifies file management, data backup, and surveillance systems. The device supports both 3.5" SATA HDDs and 2.5" SATA SSDs and offers centralised file storage and sharing across your entire company network. You can increase the total capacity in the future by connecting one Synology RX418 expansion unit for a total of eight drive bays.

Fast data transfer
At the heart of the hardware configuration is a quad-core 64-bit AMD Ryzen V1500B processor with a frequency of 2.2GHz and support for eight threads. The processing chip is complemented by pre-installed 2GB DDR4 ECC system RAM, which can be expanded to a total of 32GB by populating the two slots. The hardware supports fast sequential data reads at 2103MB/s and writes at 1074MB/s. These parameters help to speed up database work and large data transfers.
Capacity expansion options
The basic configuration includes four drive bays compatible with both 3.5" SATA HDDs and 2.5" SATA SSDs, with hot-swap support for on-the-fly replacement. If your storage needs grow, you can easily increase the capacity to eight drives by connecting one Synology RX418 expansion unit via the integrated eSATA port. The system also supports SSD caching using NVMe or SATA drives, increasing read/write IOPS by up to 16× compared to standard hard drives.
Reliable network connection
The rear panel features four integrated gigabit RJ-45 network ports. The network ports use Link Aggregation technology for automatic failover and network load balancing. A free PCIe Gen3 ×8 slot also allows for the installation of optional 10GbE or 25GbE network cards. To increase service availability, the device lets you pair two identical units using Synology High Availability to create a reliable active/passive server cluster.
Comprehensive protection for company data
Native backup packages protect company data on multiple levels without the need for additional licences. Active Backup consolidates backups from computers and VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines into one centralised location. Tools for backing up Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace with deduplication support serve to protect cloud services. In addition, Hyper Backup sends encrypted backups of folders, applications and configurations to Synology C2 Cloud or external USB drives.
Smart camera system
The device also serves as a comprehensive hub for surveillance systems in smaller operations. The integrated Synology Surveillance Station platform supports the connection of up to 40 IP cameras from a database of over 8300 verified models. You can watch live streams and stored recordings via a web browser, a desktop client application, or the DS Cam mobile app. The system stores all recorded video directly on local drives, where it is secured with AES-256 encryption.
Operating system
The DiskStation Manager operating system is the foundation of the entire ecosystem. The web-based system simplifies user account management and security for the entire local network using integrated directory services. The system includes Synology Drive for running your own private cloud with access from mobile devices and computers. In addition, the Central Management System tool allows you to conveniently manage your entire fleet of Synology NAS servers from a single, clear console.
