A hope called Jerusalem
1940. Nazi Germany makes no secret of its plans to conquer Europe. Anti-Semitism is on the rise, Jews feel threatened, but the opportunities to leave Europe are very limited. In this situation, a group of young Zionists decides to sail to Palestine on a river steamer. They manage to buy a ship and set off on their journey. The ship is overloaded, many passengers are dissatisfied, and the voyage is complicated by problems with the International Danube Commission, a flu epidemic, a seriously ill child and hunger. The British, fearing Arab unrest, also try to stop the ship. A novel inspired by the true story of the ship Pentcho and its Jewish passengers.
