The APC Smart-UPS SRT 3000VA backup power supply is designed to protect the power supply of servers, data storage and network elements in a rack-mounted design. This on-line UPS with double-conversion technology delivers a pure sine wave output and zero transfer time to battery, which is crucial for sensitive electronics. It provides a real power output of 2700W and, thanks to its high power density, only takes up 2U of height in a data rack. With dimensions of 8.5 × 43.2 × 63.5cm and a weight of 31.3kg, it integrates easily into server cabinets. A pre-installed network card for remote management and monitoring is included. At full load, it powers connected devices for 4 minutes; at half load, it maintains operation for up to 11.8 minutes, with the option to extend this further using external battery modules.

Performance and efficiency

This rackmount backup power supply operates with an on-line double-conversion topology that continuously regenerates the voltage and delivers a pure sine wave to the output. This process removes all disturbances from the input mains and the switch to battery occurs with zero delay. In addition, automatic voltage regulation corrects fluctuations in the electrical grid without unnecessarily switching to the battery, thereby extending its life. The efficiency of the power supply reaches 93.4% at full load and 92.7% at half load, which reduces operating costs and thermal losses.

Battery backup and device protection

The backup power supply keeps connected devices running for 4 minutes at a full load of 2700W and 11.8 minutes at half load. The backup time can be extended by connecting external battery packs. The integrated 96V lead-acid battery has a lifespan of 3–5 years and can be hot-swapped. It takes only 3 hours to fully recharge the battery. In addition to power backup, the device also provides surge protection with an energy rating of 340J and protection against deep battery discharge, which contributes to a longer battery life.

Remote management and system monitoring

For management and supervision, there is an integrated network card in the SmartSlot, which connects the UPS to an Ethernet network. Together with the PowerChute Network Shutdown software, it coordinates the graceful and safe shutdown of physical servers, virtual machines and HCI clusters during extended power outages. Local management and configuration are simplified by a multi-function LCD on the front panel, which displays status information and measured values. It also offers USB and RS-232 ports for direct connection to a computer.

Connectivity options

BS1363A British, IEC 60320 C20, and Schuko CEE 7/EU1-16P connectors are used for connecting to the mains. To power devices, it offers a total of eight output sockets and two jumper connectors (6× IEC C13, 2× IEC C19, and 2× IEC Jumpers). The data line is protected by an RJ-45 port.
