If you don't have enough light, you'll quickly start to miss stabilisation and deteriorating optical quality at open apertures - above f/2.5 it's almost worthless. On an APS-C body it gives a strange and impractical (for a cheap non-specialised lens) equivalent focal length of 80mm.

Small, lightweight, cheap, but the photos are better than I expected. For portraits I think it is more than sharp enough even at full aperture, bokeh is decent. I use on EOS RP. Originally I didn't care much for the 50mm focal length (I like to shoot RF 35mm and environmental portraits), but today I find the 50 much more useful than the classic 85mm portrait focal length, which I also tried.
