"NAS" is great for my needs. I don't like to put my backups somewhere in the cloud. I prefer to be in control and this is the solution I was actually looking for.
I was looking for external storage for files I don't work with often. So I turn it on only occasionally and after a while the empty holder in which I don't have a HDD started to resonate. The fan is about as loud as in a PC, if you have a computer so there is no need to deal with it. But I have a Macbook air without cooling and so the silence at work is spoiled by the cooling and the resonance of the external box.
