The lights are very easy to pair. You can then set many modes in the app for manual time of day. At home, we like to use the "Natural Light" mode, where the light changes its colour temperature depending on the time and sunset. Automation can also be set to turn on the lights when you arrive home or turn them off when you leave.
I recommend buying a Hue bridge for more options. The colour alternative of the lights was too disco-like for me (one doesn't really enjoy it and the price difference is significant), however I would be interested in the possibility of connecting it to the ambilight on Philips TV.
