I've been using the Radeon AI PRO R9700 for several months now, primarily for AI in ComfyUI under Ubuntu and ROCm. I upgraded to it from a Radeon RX 7800 XT Nitro+ 16GB, which was my starting point for local AI, and the main difference is the 32GB of VRAM. The memory capacity was the main reason for the upgrade – 16GB was starting to be a significant limitation with more demanding models. In my opinion, AMD has hit a real gap in the market with this card. For a still relatively reasonable price, it offers 32GB of VRAM, allowing you to run models and workflows that simply won't fit on standard gaming cards. With NVIDIA, a similar VRAM requirement puts you in a completely different price bracket, often about double the cost. For a home or small work AI workstation, the R9700 is therefore a very interesting compromise between price, performance, and memory capacity. I mainly use the card in ComfyUI, for WanVideo among other things. ROCm works well for me under Ubuntu and the performance is very decent. The efficiency is also interesting – I lowered the power limit by about 50W, which is about a 17% reduction, but the performance in WanVideo only dropped by approximately 6%. I was also pleasantly surprised by the noise level. Before buying, I was a bit worried about a professional card with this type of cooling, but in practice, it's nowhere near as loud as I expected. Plus, the card is relatively compact and, unlike some of today's enormous GPUs, it fits into a normal case without any issues. Overall, I'm very satisfied with it. If you primarily need a lot of VRAM for AI and don't want to pay the prices NVIDIA charges for its cards with 32GB or more, the R9700 makes a lot of sense. In my view, AMD has offered exactly the product that was missing from the market. The only major downside is the current price. I bought the card significantly cheaper shortly after its release, and it's a shame that it has become so much more expensive in just a few months. Unfortunately, this has diminished some of its originally excellent price advantage. Even so, the 32GB of VRAM remains its huge strength – especially when you look at how much comparably equipped cards from nVidia cost.

Luxurious price-performance ratio
In games a total asphalt ripper (at UWQHD resolution)
With 32GB VRAM excellent for home applications with LLM
Lez overclock and control the fans
It can be quite noisy in the basic setting; can be solved by manual adjustment via overclocking (lower wattage + fan speed limitation with minimal performance drop)

Building a home AI cluster on these GPUs turned out to be a great choice. ROCm is still a bit behind CUDA, but everything is moving forward. The performance and the results with MoE models from 30 to 80 B params in 8bit quantization surprised me very pleasantly. This isn't just a toy anymore, it's really a pro iron for serious work.

Absolutely excellent card for inference and lore. It's not suitable for qlora (but 4 bit is only for home nvidia desperados anyway, I don't know who would want 4 bit [16 level resolution] - it's not for serious work). Traditionally a bit weaker support and driver issues. SW support for new features comes with several months delay. Qwen3 25B Q8 (a3b) gives 70t/s. I haven't tried it in games, but compared to 9060/9070 it should probably be a nose-picker for the same games - it has twice as much of everything (including the price).
