I use the end cap for maximum attenuation but I hear more than with regular foam plugs. On the other hand, these plugs don't create as much pressure in the ear canal if properly fitted (which is not a problem to do, it's in the instructions). When using them at night, I still feel the need to remove the plugs from my ears and then look for where they are. After all, they are probably better than foam ones, also because of washability.
