Unfortunately, the time has come to replace my phone with a new one and find something that’s at least a bit sensible. So far, it’s been pretty trouble-free after removing all the pre-installed apps. It takes better photos than my previous mobile, but it’s still no match for a proper camera. When zooming in, the distinct artefacts resulting from the way the image is interpolated are still clearly visible. High-resolution video with a high frame rate is great. A telephoto lens can read text that I can no longer make out with my own eyes, so it’s quite a useful thing to have in your pocket.

The switch from the Honor 20 Pro to the Xiaomi 17T Pro was a much bigger upgrade than I’d expected. The new Xiaomi model feels like a true flagship – fast, better built and, above all, with a huge focus on photo quality. The camera is perfect: The colours are natural, the details are sharp, and the night mode is a cut above that of the Honor 20 Pro. It’s great that you can shoot in RAW, as the DNG files can be processed very well in Photoshop. I bought it mainly for the photos, as the larger sensor combined with Leica optics guarantees excellent quality. The portraits are excellent too, as the bokeh is very good for a mobile phone. It isn’t an artificially created blurred background that looks unprofessional. I haven’t fully explored the use of AI yet, but I’ve already started to notice it when composing emails. At the price on offer, it’s a good buy. I recommend it. The photos included have been cropped and resized; they were taken in RAW format and lightly edited in Lightroom and Photoshop. Of course, they differ slightly from the originals in that they are of poorer quality.
