Sensor resolution indicates how many image points, known as pixels, a digital camera sensor consists of. This value is most commonly expressed in megapixels, with one megapixel corresponding to one million pixels. The number of pixels directly affects the level of detail the camera can capture. A higher-resolution photograph allows for printing in larger formats without visible loss of quality and also provides greater flexibility for cropping images, as even a small crop from the original photo can yield a sufficiently high-quality image. With an increasing number of megapixels, the data size of the resulting image files also grows.
