New Strategic Possibilities on the Battlefield
The fifth instalment of Civilization changes the basic rules of combat and movement. The game board is now made up of hexagonal tiles, familiar from board games, which allow for more complex manoeuvres. The biggest change to the combat mechanics is that units can no longer be stacked on a single tile, forcing you to strategically deploy your armies and create real defensive lines. In addition, citizen happiness is now calculated globally for the entire empire, not for each city separately, simplifying the management of large empires.
A Living World of Diplomacy and City Management
Interaction with other civilisations is more personal than ever before. The game features fully animated leaders who speak to you in their native language during diplomatic negotiations and trade agreements. The world is also enriched with independent city-states, which you can win over to gain bonus resources or military support. If you conquer a foreign city, you have the choice of either annexing it directly or installing a puppet government to prevent a decline in happiness across your empire.
Accessibility and System Requirements
The game was designed to retain its depth while also being accessible to newcomers. A completely redesigned user interface makes navigation and control easier. To run the game smoothly on minimum settings, you will need a 1.8GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of free disk space. The recommended setup includes 4GB of RAM. The game requires the Windows operating system and supports DirectX 9.
