The Ubiquiti UniFi 5G Backup Modem serves as a backup internet connection within the UniFi network infrastructure. The device integrates into your existing network via an Ethernet port and automatically switches to mobile data if the primary line fails. This compact backup internet system works within the UniFi ecosystem and helps keep point-of-sale systems, cloud services, monitoring systems, and remote management operational. It works without a separate power supply and prevents connectivity outages in offices, shops, and warehouses.

Mobile Connectivity
The device supports the 5G RedCap and 4G LTE mobile standards for international bands, including European frequencies. In 5G Standalone mode, the download speed is up to 220Mbit/s. When using the LTE network, it offers download speeds of up to 195Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 100Mbit/s. For full 5G functionality, the mobile operator must support Standalone and RedCap technologies, otherwise the modem will automatically switch to LTE mode.
Flexible SIM Card Management
The slot on the underside of the device accommodates one physical 4FF Nano-SIM card. Alternatively, you can use the integrated eSIM technology, but only one of these two options can be active at a time, as the modem does not support Dual-SIM mode. If the system does not recognise the settings automatically, the interface offers the option to manually enter APN parameters. To activate an eSIM, the UniFi mobile app scans the relevant QR code and completes the registration with your chosen operator.
Power Supply
A single gigabit RJ45 Ethernet port with PoE-in support is used for connection and power. The device uses standard 802.3af PoE power, which eliminates the need for a separate power adaptor at the installation site. This power method removes the need for separate cabling to the gateway's WAN port, as the modem communicates directly over the local network. The network element's power consumption is up to 14.5W.
Versatile Mounting
The compact design, measuring 200 × 38 × 20.2mm, makes it easy to position for optimal signal reception. A strong magnet on the back allows it to be firmly attached to the metal desk stand, which you'll find in the box. A mounting kit for wall or window installation is also included. Thanks to its low weight of 122g and flexible mounts, the modem can be easily moved to locations with the best mobile network coverage within its operating temperature range of 0 to 40°C.
Integrated U5G Status Display
The front features a 1.14" status display showing the mobile service currently in use and real-time signal strength. Signal reception is handled by two integrated omni-directional mobile antennas housed directly within the device's body. The outer casing combines polycarbonate and aluminium alloy for sufficient mechanical durability. The modem operates completely silently and exhibits only low surface heating during operation.
Management in the UniFi Network System
The device works exclusively with UniFi Cloud Gateway series routers and requires UniFi Network application version 10.4.57 or higher. Mobile management requires UniFi iOS version 10.35.0 or Android version 10.38.2. Once connected to the network, adoption in the administrator interface is a one-click process. All firmware updates and APN settings are handled centrally, and the system offers the option to disable automatic speed tests to save mobile data.
