AMD Socket
A socket is a connector on a computer motherboard into which the processor is installed. AMD uses specific types of these sockets for its processors. The "AMD Socket" parameter for CPU coolers therefore indicates which specific types of AMD sockets the cooler is compatible with. Different processor generations often require different sockets, which vary in their dimensions and, most importantly, in the layout of the mounting holes for attaching the cooler. The cooler must have a mounting system that precisely matches the holes near the socket on the motherboard to be correctly installed and to ensure effective heat dissipation from the processor. Common designations include, for example, AM4 or AM5. Ensuring compatibility between the socket on the motherboard and the supported socket of the cooler is therefore necessary for the physical installation of the cooling system.
